Improving performance... the importance of one on one's

One of my clients is on a total high performance drive! First things first, you need to track (accurately) performance of your staff... and secondly you need to provide coaching and training where it's not hitting the mark.

One on ones, from my experience, can either lift performance quite dramatically - or they can have the opposite effect and drive attrition. It's all about you approach it - your mindset - and that of your employee.
